About Fast Track Frequently asked questions

1.About Fast Track

Questions Answers
1-1

What is Fast Track?

Fast Track is a way to handle quarantine procedures from Visit Japan Web.
You can click the "Fast Track" button on Visit Japan Web to register your certificates/documents and have them reviewed in advance.
If you use Fast Track, the verification procedures for your questionnaire responses and COVID test certificate or vaccination certificate can be handled before you enter Japan.

1-2

Is there a cost to use Fast Track?

Fast Track is a way to handle some airport quarantine procedures electronically in advance. There is no cost to use Fast Track itself, but any costs related to having a computer, smartphone or device and using mobile data must be covered by the user.

1-3

Who can use Fast Track?

Anyone can use it regardless of nationality, country, or region, but a computer, smartphone or device that can access the Internet is required.

1-4

Can I still use Fast Track if children travel with me?

Yes.
If a person cannot do the procedures alone (for example, in the case of an infant), the registration can be done by an accompanying family member. On Visit Japan Web, please do the registration as an accompanying family member.
Japan entry/return procedures are processed on an individual basis, so please do a separate Fast Track registration for each person.

1-5

How do I register if I have had one or two doses of a vaccine, but not three doses?

If you have not received your third dose of valid vaccine(s), please select the “Will not submit” option when asked about registering a vaccination certificate.
If you do not have a valid vaccination certificate, please submit a test certificate for a COVID test taken less than 72 hours before flight departure.

1-6

What should I do to register an accompanying child who did not meet vaccination requirements and/or did not receive a third dose?

If the child has not received a third dose of valid vaccines, please select the “Will not submit” option when asked about registering a vaccine certificate. It is not necessary to upload the parent/guardian's certificate.
Note: Special measures may be granted for children under the age of 18 who do not have a valid vaccination certificate. For details, please refer to the Q&A section on "New Measures Pertaining to Enhanced Border Controls" on this page.

1-7

The bar on my child's Fast Track registration screen is staying yellow and not changing to blue. What should I do?

If you completed the registration with “Will not submit” for the child’s vaccination certificate and "No" for COVID test certificate, the bar will be yellow. If the child is eligible for an exemption, the bar will stay yellow, but there is no problem entering Japan.

If a child under the age of 18 does not have a valid vaccination certificate but is accompanied by a parent/custodian with whom the child lives and who does have a valid vaccination certificate and is responsible for the child's actions, the child will be given special consideration as having a valid vaccination certificate like the parent/custodian, and be exempted from having to submit a negative COVID test certificate.

3.About passport registration

Questions Answers
3-1

What are important points to note when uploading a passport image?

Please take a photograph of the entire passport face page (including the symbols at the bottom) as shown in the illustration. It is best to take a horizontal photo with your smartphone. A smaller vertical photo may not be readable.

3-2

This message was displayed: “The image could not be read correctly. Please take another photo and upload it.” What should I do?

The information could not be read. Please check to ensure it is a passport image. If you have confirmed it is your passport, please ensure that you have photographed the entire passport face page (including the symbols at the bottom), and that the file is not locked with a password.

3-3

This message was displayed: “Please submit a JPG, PNG, or PDF file.” What should I do?

Passport images can only be read in JPG, PNG, or PDF file formats. Please confirm the file format.

3-4

This message was displayed: “Maximum image size 5 MB.” What should I do?

The file size appears to be too large. Please ensure the file size is less than 5 MB.

3-5

This message was displayed: “Maximum 1 image at a time.” What should I do?

It appears you have tried to register more than one image.
Please upload only one photograph of one entire passport face page (including the symbols at the bottom). No images of any other pages are necessary.
Also, if an accompanying person’s passport image is saved with yours in just one file, please use two separate files instead, re-select the accompanying person as the one to register, and then upload the passport image of that person.

3-6

This message was displayed: “Your passport has expired.” What should I do?

Your passport has expired. Please renew your passport before trying to register.

3-7

This message was displayed: “Please wait a few minutes, then try again.” What should I do?

This message is sent when the system is not responding.
This could be due to an unstable network connection.
Please check your network connection, then wait a moment, and try again to register.

3-8

My passport was read and registered, but can I redo it to make corrections?

After your passport information has been uploaded, you have confirmed it and pressed “Yes,” you cannot re-register it.
Please re-register by reentering your travel schedule as a new trip and recreating a set of information for Quarantine function (Fast Track) on Visit Japan Web.

3-9

I tried to upload my passport image several times, but it not being accepted. What should I do?

Sometimes the problem reading a passport is due to dirt/stains/marks, poor lighting, or the page is creased or not laid flat.
Please take a photograph of the entire passport face page (including the symbols at the bottom) as shown in the illustration. It is best to take a horizontal photo with your smartphone. A smaller vertical photo may not be readable.

3-10

Can I still use Fast Track if I don't have my passport? For example, if I lost it? Can I still enter Japan even if I cannot use Fast Track?

If you do not have your passport due to loss or other reason, please contact the issuing authority or your country's embassy or consulate.
Without a passport you will not be able to use Fast Track. If you have obtained a valid passport before entering Japan, you can still enter the country without using Fast Track, provided you present the necessary documents to the quarantine officer at the airport upon arrival in Japan.

3-11

On the vaccination certificate, please clearly print your name by pen or pencil, exactly as spelled in your passport. Please upload an image of your certificate that clearly shows where you wrote your name, plus an image of the passport you used when you got vaccinated. Note that your document might not be accepted if the names in the vaccination certificate and passport differ significantly (for example, first name and family name do not match).

3-13

I skipped my passport registration, but can I go back and register it?

If you skipped the passport registration, you cannot go back and register it. Your ability to enter Japan will not be affected even if you did not register your passport, but you may be required to present your passport during quarantine procedures upon arrival at the airport.
